Introducing Dr. Makenzie Fulmer

Introducing Dr. Makenzie Fulmer

Makenzie Fulmer, PhD joined the Department of Pathology faculty in July 2022. Dr. Fulmer is a former fellow and is now a medical director for molecular genetics & genomics and cytogenetics with the Clinical Pathology Division. She specializes in molecular genetics and genomics, cytogenetics, and genomic microarray.

A self-described 'former Tennessee mountain girl', Dr. Fulmer completed her undergraduate and PhD within 'a hop, skip, and a jump of Dolly Parton' at East Tennessee State University. After years of fascination in the science of medicine and how genetics plays a role in health and disease, she moved to Utah in 2018 to pursue a career in laboratory genetics and genomics and joined the Department of Pathology fellowship program.

Dr. Fulmer came to Utah because of the community and high-quality training. She says, "Coming from a small family that has no background in science or medicine, I feel really supported and at home in the Department of Pathology here at the U. Just want to give a huge thank-you to everyone who has helped and supported me along the way."

Outside of the lab, Dr. Fulmer is an avid trail runner and skiier. She also enjoys camping, crafting, dog snuggling, traveling, puzzles, and craft beers.
