Meet Dr. Heather Nelson
The Department of Pathology welcomes Heather Nelson, PhD, DABCC as a new addition to the faculty. Dr. Nelson has joined the Clinical Pathology Division as an Assistant Professor (Clinical).
Dr. Nelson, who completed a clinical chemistry fellowship at the University of Utah, has focused her research on understanding the pathophysiology of diabetes. She currently oversees electrophoresis-based chemistry testing, lipid NMR, and fecal chemistries.
Previously, she earned her PhD from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and then spent two years as a post-doctoral research fellow at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She was drawn to the University of Utah and ARUP by the vast expertise, resources, culture, people, and the mountains.
As a previous fellow, Dr. Nelson's transition has been 'seamless'. She notes that the section faculty have been very supportive and vested in her success.
Outside of the lab, she enjoys running, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors.
