Welcome Dr. Nick Spies

The Department of Pathology welcomes Nick Spies, MD. Dr. Spies joined the Clinical Pathology Division in July 2024 as an assistant professor specializing in clinical pathology, information and analytics, and women's health.

Dr. Spies is a former bioinformatiscist and completed his medical residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Clinical Pathology at Washington University School of Medicine.  During his residency in clinical pathology, he became interested in the quality of pre and post-analytical portions of testing and how artificial intelligence may help them. He was drawn to the University of Utah and ARUP because of the unique combination of the academic and operational aspects of a large reference lab like ARUP, and the opportunities for analytics solutions that come along with it.

Outside of work, Dr. Spies spends a lot of his time with his young son, whom he looks forward sharing his interest of sports with someday.
