Huntsman Cancer Hospital (HCH), a National Cancer Care Network hospital, and the University of Utah hospital support complex patient populations that are routinely transfused, such as trauma (level 1), solid organ transplant, complex cardiac surgery, hematology/oncology including bone marrow transplant, high risk obstetrics, critical care, neonatology, and more.
ARUP Blood Services, which provides the majority of blood products for UUH and HCH, drew over 20,000 total donors in the past year. ARUP immunohematology reference laboratory and the UUH blood bank performed over 3,000 antibody identifications within the past year.
Abundant opportunities for research projects exist. Travel support is provided for fellows to present their research at national meetings such as AABB, in addition to a generous book fund.
